“I don’t always know how to do what I have to do, but knowing what I have to do, has changed the way I think about what I teach.” -Carol Ann Tomlinson
I began my formal journey as a Math educator with lot of anticipation; excitement and apprehension at my present institution. Over the years, the anticipation and excitement has increased exponentially while the apprehension has seeped away.
With a rich experience of teaching grade 11 and 12 students Mathematics in National, Cambridge and International Baccalaureate. I believe that, to be successful in life one need not know any mathematical laws, proofs equations, but that mathematics has percolated to all areas of my life.
Teaching in IB for the past ten years has been an idyllic experience for me: IB gives teachers a platform to constantly learn and create a learning environment with the exploration of ideas, a relationship in which students feel respected as well as challenged.
Throughout my life, I has always been a sports enthusiast and feels that the time spent in playing the game of basketball has taught me to focus, and helped in overcoming personal or physical shortcomings and being resourceful. Travelling is another avenue that has always fascinated her. The experience has always added depth since my love for travel has taken me across most of India in search for adventure and challenge.
I opine that, “I have been fortuitous of teaching in IBDP Mathematics. The sophistication and academic rigour that IB employs has been a corner stone of my teaching in the recent past. I find teaching IB the most fascinating of all the teaching I have done so far. It has been an endeavour to enhance the quality of learning and teaching by transforming my traditional teaching way to inquiry based learning.”
Presently, I teach IB Mathematics and attempt to use approaches to teaching and learning to help students appreciate mathematics in an unconventional way and experiments to customize the content in context of 21st century learning skills.
